Summer Hairstyles from Bliss Salon in Destin

TIP from Bliss Salon in Destin… Use gel after a braid is finished to smooth down loose or uncontrolled hairs. Apply it to your fingertip or to the end of a hairpin, directing it on top of the stray hairs to encourage them back into the braided pattern. – Just another hair tip from your favorite Destin hair salon, Bliss Salon

HOW TO BRAID HAIR FROM OUR DESTIN HAIR SALON

(information found on http://www.wikihow.com/Braid-Hair)

  1. Use a wide-tooth comb to remove all hair tangles. Hair should be smooth with no lumps or tangles
  2. Divide hair into smaller sections and use a fine-tooth comb again to be certain all knots are gone
    • Pick section of hair you want to braid – any part and any amount
    • If you are not experienced with braiding, start with smaller sections so you can control the hair easier
  3. Divide hair into three even sections. Separate them with your hands and try to always hold them separately
  4. Cross left hand section over middle section. Original left hand section is now middle section.
  5. Continue keeping sections separate while tightening the entire braid by pulling  sections away from each other.

Begin Braiding Your Hair

  1. Cross right section over middle section. Original right hand section is now middle section.
  2. Tighten the braid again. But don’t pull too much as you don’t want to end up with a headache from a braid that is too tight.
  3. Continue this process alternating left and right sections over middle, again tightening (but not too much) as you go
  4. Repeat until you get to the bottom, leaving an inch of unbraided hair (your “tail”) at the bottom.

Secure the Braid

  1. An elastic rubberband (preferably covered with cloth to avoid hair breakage) should be used to secure the braid.
    • Try to avoid standard rubber bands
  2. Now, put a drop of hair gel in your hands and rub them together rapidly to turn it into more of a liquid. Once the gel is emulsified, rub it along the top of the braid and even pick up the braid itself and rub it gently with your hands to cover it with the gel.
  3. Next, lightly mist the braid with hairspray keep it secure. Do this before adding any ribbons, etc.
  4. Add a ribbon or pretty clips to your completed braid!  A ribbon is a great accessory and styling aid, especially with braids.

Beach Wedding Season Approaching Fast!

Thanks to Simple Destin Weddings  www.simpledestinweddings.com  for our first bride of the season! We are really getting ready for our weddings now too. Here are just a few ideas to help get you to the beach on time for your perfect day.

Have your hair cut two weeks before the wedding.
“I would say that 99% of women on the planet like their hair a week after it’s been cut,” she says. “If you have enough time to plan ahead, find the style you like and do it two weeks beforehand so that your hair falls naturally the way you like it, and it’s not a fresh cut – especially for photos.”

Allow yourself at least one week for color.
“If you get color on your hairline, it could take three or four days to disappear,” says Forster. “Give yourself a week of washing and living naturally – at that point it takes on a more natural look. Get highlights a week and a half before as well.”

For a bride planning a destination wedding, the good news is that the best wedding hairstyles – classic and simple – are the easiest to accomplish.

Start by deciding what direction you want to go.  Magazines are a great resource – not only of what is current, but to get an idea of what you like and what you want to avoid. Once you’ve narrowed down the possibilities, talking to a stylist can be a great way to have a dialog about your ideas.

"Organized Chaos" is another good idea...allowing your hair to dry by itself and then letting your stylist put it up loosely. You may want to use a leave in conditioner so your hair will look smooth but not too much because you don't want your hair to look oily.

* Do not wash your hair the day of your visit to the salon
* Avoid using any product in your hair or if you must, use as little as possible
* Your hair should be completely dry. Because blow drying requires more time and work some salons do charge extra for each client that requires blow drying
* A comfortable button down shirt is preferable...the easier to get your shirt off the better ...you don't want to take a chance that your hair gets messed up when you're getting ready.
* Do not flat iron your hair...if your hair needs to be flat ironed the stylist will take care of that because hair that is flat iron before curled will not hold the curl as well.

Keep a clear and open mind.
Finally one more foolproof tip for looking your best on your day. “The most beautiful thing a bride can do for herself is to be in a really good space mentally,” she says. “If you are at peace with what is going on and you accept there are stresses that are going to come up and take it in stride, you will look better. It's true! Realize what you are doing is a beautiful process and accept there may be a few little snags along the way.
